an ounce of prevention
Last night I went to Home Depot to pick up a new grill for the house. (A Weber Genesis A, if you're curious.)
The box dimensions were 4'x 4' x 3'. It was probably about 120 pounds. It was on a pallet, sitting on a rack 12 feet above the ground. The box had been liberally taped shut, and was shrink-wrapped to three other grills on the same pallet. It took a forklift to get it down, a utility knife to cut through several square feet of plastic wrapping, and two people to load the box into my truck.
While assembling the grill, I noticed a small plastic security strip attached to the lid handle - the kind that set off a store alarm to prevent shoplifting. You know, just in case I decided to sneak out of Home Depot with a box roughly the size of a Ford Focus.
Ridiculous.
