the Idiot of the Day award goes to...

to be read in a hokey game show announcer voice

Kevin Rollins! CEO of Dell Computers! You said something really stupid! So you're our winner!

Mr. Rollins decided to trash the iPod by comparing it to the Sony Walkman. Let's see what he has to say:

"When I was growing up there was a product made by Sony called the Sony Walkman – a rage, everyone had to have one. Well you don’t hear about the Walkman anymore. I believe that one product wonders come and go. You have to have sustainable business models, sustainable strategy."

Wow, Kevin! That was profoundly dumb!

Think about it Kevo, which could possibly be more likely to have made the Walkman obsolete: A bad business model? Or could it have been the compact disc? I guess you'll never know.... Because you're an idiot!

Also, if the iPod is a fad and a "one product wonder", what does that make Dell's Music DJ? You know, that crappy MP3 player that your company makes that so far hasn't scratched Apple's 90% market share of the hard-drive based MP3 player market?

The answer is.... It doesn't matter! Because nobody knows the stupid thing even exists anyway!

Seriously folks, I know at least a dozen people that asked for iPods for Christmas. And none of those people even know that Dell makes an MP3 player. So to hear guys like this talk trash about Apple while they're getting their butts handed to them just makes me laugh. The Mac Mini is sold out. People are buying the iPod shuffle in bulk. And all Dell can do is talk trash. I guess that's their "sustainable strategy".
