Another example of the kind of sentence I end up writing at 3 in the morning:

"For the past eight years, the Commission and the federal courts have been sparring like Greek gods, too preoccupied with their own insular power struggles to exert any meaningful control over the subjects they are ostensibly trying to govern."

That's ridiculous. It stays.
